Having fished and traveled the seas of Southern California and Mexico for over 40 years on private, commercial, charter, and party sportfishing boats, I have come to the conclusion that no other saltwater anglers anywhere, as a group, know more about their fishery than those of our area. Because of an abundance of live bait and relatively calm seas, over a long season, and a generous palette of species, few other areas of the world can boast of a light tackle, stand up, live bait fishery so near the coast. From tropical and temperate pelagic types, to bruising less migratory gamesters, one can truly run the gamut of sportfishing thrills. On these pages I hope to pass on the knowledge, both mine and other experts I know. Knowledge that translates to success at the end of the fishing line. I hope to speak to those who judge the success of their experience by feeling and observing the beauty and inhabitants of our sea, take their fishing seriously, and get the bites. This is not a clubhouse story session, with no lab time. We will show proven methods to catch large fish, many fish, and do so at affordable cost should you choose. There is no reason any individual, even the rawest rookie, cannot learn the techniques and find the places to catch, at reasonable expense, large tuna, numerous billfish, excellent numbers of yellowtail, barracuda, and albacore, roosterfish, dorado, sand and calico bass, and many others. You can see whales, porpoise, sharks, bait schools, flying fish, sea turtles, manta rays, and myriads of other creatures if you look.

My own boat is also available for limited charter trips. These are both low key and inexpensive, as they are meant to share the experience, not make a pile of money. These types of trips will vary widely from local to offshore, depending on seasons and conditions. You can even try a friendly bay cruise to sample the boat and talk fishing. |
