Discussion Local 1/2 and 3/4 day is usually productive year around, weather permitting in winter. (Not this year though, Hope that is a fluke). Fishing may be surface or bottom. Surface is probably better May through October.
Tuna and yellowtail best July to October, but varies in warm water years.
Marlin best August, September, October. |
|
Note Due to the often unpredictable nature of the offshore fishing in our area for the exotics, ie:Yellowtail, Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Striped Marlin, and Dorado, I am thinking of developing a list of people interested in going when this fishing is good. I would notify them when a certain bite turns on and the best chance for success would be available. This would be for the months of July, August, September, and October. Otherwise, coastal fishing would continue to be good from March or April on. I would appreciate any feedback on this idea. Please click here to send me your thoughts. |

Discussion-Summer 2007 Figure this one out. Running 3 hours to the Tuna and Dorado (as many used to) and back at 30 gal of fuel per hour =180 gal, Add 6 hours of trolling at 5 gal per hour and at $3.00/ gal you have almost $700.00 in fuel cost alone. Add bait purchased and you can have another 50.00. So you can see why nobody is running that far for fish now, or they are charging huge prices.
In our case, to keep our prices for the tuna trips, we will not run to those distant fish but will wait until they come closer to our area. Hopefully that will happen soon. For coastal and Catalina Island trips everything is the same as it is now.
If you really want to save a spot when the exotics arrive, you might consider booking a coastal trip and upgrading if those other fish get good, other fish the locals. |

Note Best value is the 3/4 day trip with most options for good fishing.
Also, unless you are a regular, calling to request a charter two or three days from the call usually does not work. |
